Shriram Venkat (Imran Khan), a Tamilian from Bangalore, is the bane of his traditional family and a self-centred cad. On the other hand, Diya (Kareena Kapoor) is a social worker, who believes that helping those in need is the only mission worth having.

Despite being as different as chalk and cheese, the two end up falling in love, only to part ways because, like mentioned earlier, they are as different as chalk and cheese. After Shriram gets engaged to Vasudha (Shraddha Kapoor), she gets to know about his relationship with Diya and encourages him to run away on the day of the wedding to meet her and win her back.

Subsequently, Shriram lands up in rural Gujarat, where Diya is living in the village and trying to make their lives better by pressurizing the local authorities to provide the villagers with basic facilities. When Shriram takes it upon himself to stay in the village and help the villagers build a bridge for accessibility, sparks start flying between the two again.
